The players may be slogging it out in week one of pre-season training, but they’ve put training to the side to acknowledge Remembrance Day.

Staff and players from the Greater Western Sydney GIANTS have come together at the Life Learning Centre to observe a minute’s silence to remember all those who’ve died or suffered for our country in wars and armed conflicts.

Australians across the country paused for a minute at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, as is tradition on Remembrance Day.

The GIANTS have a strong connection to our military, having earlier this year visited the Australian War Memorial in Canberra and playing a historic ANZAC Day clash against Gold Coast at StarTrack Oval in Canberra.

The club’s first office was at Rooty Hill RSL, and there are a number of prominent military facilities in the GIANTS region including the RAAF Base at Richmond (Western Sydney), the Royal Military College at Duntroon (Canberra) and the Army Training Centre at Kapooka (Wagga Wagga).

The GIANTS have also formed a community partnership with Soldier On, who work to enhance recover, inspire communities and empower Australians who have suffered physical and psychological injuries while in the Defence forces.

The GIANTS work with Soldier On through a range of initiatives in Western Sydney and Canberra including fundraising support, inner sanctum experiences for veterans and mentoring programs.
